From September 2010, the VU University Amsterdam offers the unique Master's Degree Programme Design Cultures, a specialization of the Master Comparative Arts and Media Studies. The one-year, English-taught MA-programme at the VU will study product design, graphic design and fashion in a broad social, cultural and academic context. The Premsela Chair of Design Cultures focuses on the research of design culture from a historical and theoretical perspective.

Metaphor Studies is a one-year master programme in English that is unique in the world. It is taught by internationally well-known specialists. Metaphor Studies is an interdisciplinary programme, including linguistic, cognitive and social aspects of metaphor in written and spoken interaction. Attention is given to fundamental and applied issues of metaphor, which may each form the basis of the master thesis.
