Research interests:

History and culture of the Achaemenid (Persian) Empire; Elamite language and culture, particularly that of the first millennium BC; Persian and Elamite religion; Intercultural receptivity of literary motifs and themes and the history of the comparative approach.

Research

  • Publication and contextualisation of c. 7000 Elamite texts (in cuneiform), part of the Persepolis Fortification Archive, a corpus dating to c. 500 BC that may be considered the central, primary source of for the Achaemenid (Persian) Empire. 
  • Edition of the Elamite version of the Bīsotūn inscription of Darius the Great as part of an international cooperation aimed at creating a new synoptic edition of the Elamite, Old Persian, Akkadian and Aramaic versions of Bīsotūn 
  • Processes of acculturation and integration in pre-Achaemenid Iran: the genesis of the ‘Persian’ identity.
