Research

In September 2005 I started my PhD research, titled Conversationalization in public discourse, which is part of the VU-Ster project Text, cognition and communication. For my research I will focus on metaphoricity in public discourse and conversation. The aim of the research is to see how the language of news texts has developed towards the language of conversations, drawing on the conversationalisation hypothesis first proposed by Fairclough (1994). In the case of my project, I will specifically look at the use of metaphorical language in both discourse genres. At this moment, I am doing a conceptual analysis of the mappings underlying the linguistic metaphors that have been identified in the corpus.
