Academic Dutch
The Academic Dutch course is designed for people whose speaking and writing skills are not yet sufficient to participate adequately in lectures and seminars. During this course you will acquire all skills to write a good essay or paper, like formulating a thesis statement, making an outline, (re)writing texts, using citations and foot notes, ensuring the academic character of your text, etc. In addition, you learn how to structure an oral presentation or paper, make a PowerPoint presentation or sheets, pose (critical) questions, formulate your opinion, etc. The course also includes assignments focusing on debate and discussion, on academic vocabulary and expressions, as well as on grammar and spelling. Part of these assignments can be made applicable to your own degree programme. The course takes place on nine Tuesday evenings, and also involves approximately eight hours of self-study per week. All course attendees who achieve the course aims will receive a certificate. Many faculties/degree programmes reward this certificate with 3 ECTS (study credits).
