Courses for people with a General Certificate of Secondary Education
If you wish to learn Dutch, whether at beginner or advanced level, and have completed your secondary education, you can follow various courses at the Department of Dutch as a Second Language: intensive day courses (three to four days per week), extensive evening courses (two evenings per week) and a summer course (five days per week).
Learning Dutch as a requirement for enrolling at VU
If you need to learn Dutch as a requirement for enrolling in a bachelor, pre-master or master course at the VU University Amterdam, you can follow one of our day courses for people who have completed their secondary education. Prospective students who, in addition to learning Dutch, need (or wish) to follow other preparatory courses can find relevant information at VASVU, the Preparatory year for non-native speakers.
State Exam Training
If you wish to prepare for the State Examination of Dutch as a Second Language, you may participate in our short State Exam Training (programme II).
Advanced courses
If you have a good command of the Dutch language but would like to improve certain aspects of it, you might be interested in one of the following courses: ‘Academic Dutch’, ‘Medical Dutch’, ‘Writing at Work’, and ‘Speaking at Work’. For more information see Advanced courses.
Private tuition
If you prefer not to be taught in groups or if our teaching schedule does not suit you, please contact us about the possibility of private tuition.
