Summer course
Every August the NT2 department organises an (intensive) summer course, which is designed purely for people who have no prior knowledge of Dutch. During the courses you work together with other participants to rapidly improve your Dutch language skills. Part of the courses involves self-study, to be carried out at home, in your own time; the other part involves classes taught at VU. These classes focus on those aspects that require the presence of a teacher and fellow course attendees, like the training of oral skills. The courses last for two weeks, and involve ten course days. Each course day contains five hours of teaching. In addition to these classes, you need to study some course topics independently. You are, for instance, required to learn vocabulary and train your listening skills by means of a computer programme (either at home or in our computer room). The courses also offer you the opportunity to get to know Amsterdam, for instance by enjoying a guided city walk, a bicycle trip or a visit to a museum, together with your fellow course attendees.
Exchange students who participated sufficiently in class and passed their final test may gain 3.5 ECTS (study credits).
Time schedule:
Classes will be given from Monday August, 22. till Friday September, 2., daily from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. Wednesday August, 24. class will be given from 2 till 5.30 p.m.; Friday September, 2. from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m. (including a final exam and an excursion).
