Programme
12.30 Wintergasten: Fragments of the Wintergasten broadcast
We will start watching Deirdre’s interview on Dutch TV (last Monday in the program Wintergasten). It provides a few clues on her position concerning the role of the Dutch burgher.
13.00 Start seminar
Discussants:
- Deirdre McCloskey
- Inger Leemans
- Dorothee Sturkenboom
Moderator: Arjo Klamer
Other participants are a few NIAS fellows. After a short introduction of their research projects and their vision on the (history of) the Dutch burgher, we will continue with a discussion of the history of the Dutch bourgeoisie. We will sort out what the participants are doing on the subject, and then try to determine what the important issues are. There will be no long presentations but plenty of discussion on the character that we call the Dutch burgher.
