Required level of entry
The research Master's is aimed in particular at the talented student who is exceptionally motivated to train in academic methods in the field of art history, architecture history, visual culture and media studies. To be admitted to the course the student should have at least a Bachelor’s diploma in art, architectural history, media and culture. The international academic approach means that a broad knowledge of languages is necessary. Admission requirements and application for Dutch students
In order to be admitted you must apply via Studielink before the 1st of June for the researchmaster Visual Arts, Media and Architecture under the label Kunst- en cultuurwetenschappen (research). Then you should send in an application for admission to the Examination Board. This application must always consist of:

- A letter setting out your motivation for your application, accompanied by a curriculum vitae.
- A brief text on the subject or issue you would like to focus your research on (for instance in the context of tutorials and your thesis). If you prefer, you can integrate this into your motivation letter.

The Examination Board of the research Master’s course, in consultation with the professor or professors concerned, will decide whether you may be admitted to the course and whether additional requirements are necessary or an exemption can be made. Admission may also depend on the results of a personal interview with the Examination Board about your motivation. Only those students who have obtained their Bachelor’s degree before 1 September in the year they would like to begin will be admitted. Admission requests from students from abroad will be looked at individually by the Examining Board.
In addition to sending a request for admission to the Examination Board, you must apply to the VU Student Reception, the deadline for application is the 1st of June; you will then be sent a registration pack. When your application has been accepted by the Examination Board you may register definitely.
