VU Graduate School of Humanities
The VU Graduate School of Humanities started on 1 September 2008.
The VU Graduate School of Humanities includes
- education for Master’s degrees in the Faculty of Arts (both general master’s and research master’s)
- the PhD programme in the Faculty of Arts
The profile of the two educational programmes is characteristic of the VU in its coherence and content, and from a national and international viewpoint is unique.
Research and teaching are brought together in the Graduate School. The faculty’s teaching profile is linked directly to its research profile as it is shaped in the interfaculty research institutes of the VU. This is reflected most strongly in the Graduate Seminar, where master’s and doctoral students and faculty researchers work together closely. In these seminars students contribute directly to faculty research and researchers have the opportunity to bring their most relevant insights into the teaching. This very direct means of interaction and transfer of knowledge makes the Graduate School a ‘community of learners’ par excellence.
