Premaster and premaster assessment

If you do not meet the admission requirements, you can enter the Master's programme Comparative Arts and Media Studies by successfully completing the pre-Master's programme. This helps you to take away your deficiencies.  

In all cases, the premaster programme can only be started in September.  The premaster is largely in Dutch and therefore not accessible for students who don't speak Dutch. Please contact the study advisor for more information on the programme.

* The literature of the course Filmanalyse & -theorie has to be studied by students individually and should be incorporated into the paper.

Enrollment with a Dutch HBO diploma

Dutch HBO students can apply via Studielink before the 1st of June for the premaster Comparative Arts and Media Studies, under de label premaster Kunst – en Cultuurwetenschappen (Arts & Culture)

After you have applied for the premaster in Studielink, the university will retrieve your application details from Studielink, prepare your VU Portal account, and e-mail you the login details. Please note that this may take a couple of days. The e-mail will contain instructions on how to access your account and complete your application in the VU Portal (vunet.vu.nl). Don’t forget to fill in your specialization on VUnet: P Comparative Arts and Media Studies.

Next to this, you'll need to provide all the documents containing the information we need to decide whether you are admissible. The following required documents should be send to ec-graduateschool.let@vu.nl:

  • Application form (in Dutch)
  • Motivation letter
    Please supply a letter (1-2 pages in length) stating your reasons for applying to the master.
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Transcription of records (scan of original)

Your application will be reviewed by the Faculty of Arts. The final decision on admission is made by the Examination Board of the Master's programme within 6 weeks. 

If you are admitted to the premaster with a HBO bachelor’s degree, participation in the premaster assessment is mandatory. Please note that you have to apply for the premaster assessment preferably before the 1st of May. More information on the premasterassesment can be found here(in Dutch).
