Research
Ascertain and examine the pertinent morphophonological rules in Jaqi (Jaqaru, Kawki, Aymaran) that foster processes like vowel suppression which permit the word-medial clustering of up to six consonants so as to uncover the nature of those rules and the reason for their existence. This will shed light on Proto-Jaqi and will define the subsequent changes that characterize Aymara’s sisters, Jaqaru and Kawki alongside the Aymara dialects. Fieldwork performed in rural populations will document the dead language Kawki and some Aymara dialects to foster a more complete understanding specifically of Aymara and generally of morphophonological change.
