My PhD Research seeks to explore how various European corporate art venues since the 1990s have been functionally operating in the public institutional field of art. The main objective is to make a profound qualitative analysis of this phenomenon by raising critical issues, such as, how did these venues evolve? To what extent can they be compared with the modern Western museum, as they seem to have different starting points? To what extent do certain corporate cultural politics affect the position of the work of art in these venues? To what extent do corporate art venues poach on the preserves of non-corporate art institutions, and provoke certain conflicts of interest? My research has to provide new insights on how corporate art venues are coping with these issues, as these could be used as a guiding principle in exploring a sustainable future role which business enterprises could play in preserving and shaping our cultural identity.
